Digital Design & FabricationNEW

Have fun at the UT Fab Lab in this exciting new camp—designed for all levels of participants—as you dive into the world of digital design and fabrication! You’ll explore Computer Aided Drafting (CAD) and learn to operate laser cutters, 3D printers, and CNC routing equipment in a safe and efficient manner. Throughout the week, you’ll generate a range of your own unique projects. Note: You must wear closed-toe shoes and appropriate workshop attire in order to participate each day. Long hair must be tied back and jewelry removed before working with any machinery. Please bring a personal laptop that meets the required specifications for Autodesk Fusion 360 (specifications can be found on our website). Instructor: Craig Gillam.

Make Your First Video Game!
Make your first video game in this one-of-a-kind camp that shows you the keys to designing a 2D platformer game. We’ll explore conceptualization, play experience, level design, graphics, sounds, and simple coding. No experience is necessary, just a desire to have fun. Your game will be available on a password-protected website to share with friends and family. Games are only compatible on PC computers; Mac versions can be created after the camp for a $15 conversion fee.

In this exciting camp we’ll play around with programming by writing code to tell stories using stick figures and then learn a simple way to animate them. The activities are designed for you to get started quickly and learn as you go. You’ll learn the basic concepts that are common to all programming languages and watch your ideas come to life on the computer screen. No previous computer programming experience is needed. App Attack! Make Your First Game App
(Grades 3-5, rising)

Take the first steps into the world of mobile app design and customize your very own game app. In this popular camp you’ll explore a variety of web-based mobile apps using a specialized game development tool. In addition to learning the basics of mobile app design and game development, you’ll also see firsthand how the world of app publishing functions. Once you’ve created your own unique app, you’ll be able to access it on a private site and play it on any mobile device or computer. No experience is necessary, and you do not need a smartphone or tablet to attend. Publishing to app stores is not included.

Maker Labs: Make Your Own 3D Creation!

In this fun camp, if you can dream it, you can make it! You’ll create your first action figure, design custom jewelry, make a new toy, and create a design portfolio to showcase your work. Using professional-level modeling software, you’ll learn to sculpt, texture, and render your own 3D creation. No prior experience is necessary, and your 3D designs will be available on a password-protected website to share with friends and family. 3D printing is not included but can be purchased separately through an online provider.

If you love Minecraft and have always wanted to design your own world, this camp is for you! You’ll learn how to create a custom map, the basics of creating 3D models to design your own objects, how to build with redstone and command blocks, and how to create custom textures for you to import at home or share with friends. To access your project at home, you must own a PC/Mac version of Minecraft (tablet, phone, and game console versions are not compatible). A parent email address is also required to use the 3D modeling software.

Virtual Reality: The Future Is Now NEW
Embark on an epic adventure in virtual reality! In this new innovative camp, you’ll learn the foundations of VR design by creating your own virtual worlds, exploring simulated environments, and crafting memorable 3D experiences. At the end of the week, you’ll take home your own cardboard VR headset (included in the camp fee) to show friends and family the new worlds you’ve created. You don’t need a mobile device to take the camp, but to use the VR headset at home, you’ll need access to an Android or Apple mobile device.
